There are many reasons that you may need a new Range Rover engine. It could be that it is past its best after years of wear and tear. It may be you have had a road accident. Or it could be that a past mistake made during servicing has caused damage that cannot be easily remedied.

However, in some cases, it could be that severe water damage is the reason, with some possible recent examples hitting the headlines.

Among these was a deeply embarrassing mishap involving a couple in the US. The Range Rover they were in was submerged in a river in Philadelphia after they left the handbrake off while enjoying amorous activities in the back seat. Evidently distracted, they did not realise it was rolling toward the water before it was too late.

Thankfully, the movement of the vehicle alerted them just in time and while they couldn’t stop it careering into the river, they at least managed to jump out before the Range Rover plunged into the depths. Daylight had dawned before the authorities were able to extract the sunken car from the water.

Having their nocturnal fun interrupted may be the least of the worries the couple had to face up to the morning after, as the soaking may have caused severe damage to the engine.

They may not be the only ones left needing a replacement engine after drowning the previous one. On this side of the Atlantic, a Land Rover had a similar mishap when it slid into Windermere, England’s biggest lake. What the occupants were doing in it beforehand is not known, but, thankfully, they too escaped unharmed.

However, it was several hours before the half-submerged vehicle could be pulled out of the lake with the help of a tractor and a sturdy rope. That may have been long enough for its engine to sustain irreversible damage.
