The headline in the Independent that a man has swapped a forklift trick for a Range Rover was a curious one and the story itself might have been particularly strange, had it not been that of a construction worker who has just won the lottery.

In such circumstances, it seems only logical that Norwich-based construction worker Adam Lopez, having become a scratch card millionaire, should ditch his work vehicle while spending some of his winnings on a Range Rover for himself, as well as another one for his mother.

Of course, most folk don’t get so lucky that they can suddenly splash out on even one new Range Rover, let alone two, but having demonstrated his love for such cars, it may be that Mr Lopez uses the time not spent driving forklifts around building sites for a living to join the rest of us spending weekends getting to grips with Range Rover engines.

Best of all, the simple truth is that Range Rovers are better than forklifts, not just because they may be more fun to drive, but because in their own way, they can be just as useful.

Of course, a forklift is useful for helping to stack things in warehouses or ferry bricks around building sites, but a powerful Range Rover with a tow rope can do amazing things when someone is stuck in the mud.

This sort of practicality and the joys of taking a Range Rover off-road on occasions will await many a new owner. It could be that Mr Lopez has always dreamed of having his own Range Rover to do such things, unlike some other lucky lotto winners, such as Neil Abernethy, a retired telecoms engineer from Wrexham.

Mr Abernethy won a Range Rover Evoque worth £51,000 after buying a 5p ticket from competition specialist BOTP and being first out of the hat.

Unfortunately, as the Daily Post reports, Mr Abernethy has a problem, as he has nowhere to keep the vehicle. Consequently, he is seeking a cash alternative.

If only he had a forklift truck. Perhaps then he could have got some bricks and built a garage for it.
