There are many great Range Rovers out there. At the top of the tree are models such as the £130,000 P530 driven by footballer Trent Alexander-Arnold. This has made the news recently, but not because of any problems with it, except the revelation that the former Liverpool footballer cannot drive it to his new club Real Madrid’s training ground.

This news, no doubt gloatingly reported by the Liverpool Echo, arises because Real Madrid are sponsored by BMW. Trent will no doubt hope that doesn’t mean he has to swap his Range Rover for the German car; it was bad enough being booed by fans for turning his back on Liverpool, so he surely won’t want to take this fast-track to even more unpopularity.

While Trent has an unusual problem, other drivers will face some rather more common issues at times. They may need a Range Rover engine repair or replacement.

This was highlighted in a 2023 article by Hot Cars, which noted that for all their qualities, Range Rovers are prone to quite a few problems, not least under the bonnet.

Describing these issues, the article said: “Early cars would overheat. Diesel units would suffer a whole raft of catastrophic failures. Gasoline units kill radiators, eat timing chains, and suffer manifold woes.”

What this indicates is that if your Range Rover seems to be having engine issues, this is not unusual. That means you should not ignore them but see to them as soon as possible.

Of course, for those who love nothing more than spending time working on their cars, fixing some engine problems is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. If you know that the underlying problem causing your car to perform badly on the road is engine-related, the key issue will simply be whether it can be fixed or needs replacing altogether.

Either way, unlike poor old Trent, you need not have your Range Rover consigned to the garage for a long time.
