There are many things that we can help you do as a Range Rover rebuild specialist. One of these is to take an older Range Rover in need of some repairs, replacement parts and maybe a new engine, restoring it to its former glory in the process. But there is an alternative: a restomod.

This portmanteau defines a vehicle that is both restored and modified, with its worn-out old parts fixed, but also some new, more modern features added. The second part opens up a whole world of possibilities.

Among recent examples is a restomod designed by Overfinch, a UK-based modifier of Land Rovers. According to Motoring Research, it is planning to build the “most expensive restomod ever”, with a limited edition consisting of just 25 modified Range Rovers.

It may be that your plans don’t extend as far as restoring a Range Rover to break any records for value, so how about something that is just a bit funky?

Auto Express has just highlighted the development of such a vehicle, a restomod from Estonia that it described as “a slice of old-school cool with a modern twist”. The L322 Range Rover has been taken and modified with a combination of “retro style, premium materials and all-new mechanicals”.

The designer, Mihkel Külaots of Velvet Motorworks, noted that he was a teenager when the first L322 was launched and the newest models are still over 20 years old. Now, he remarked, “These vehicles deserve a proper tear-down, rebuild, and a bit of extra character.”

Whatever model of Range Rover you want to work on, the sky is the limit. The above examples represent just two approaches to a restomod project. Much will depend on your tastes, creativity and how you want to use the vehicle.

A restomod is a wonderful opportunity to take an old Range Rover and give it a completely new and unique identity.
