The modern Range Rover models many of us know and love were designed under the creative direction of Gerry McGovern, who has announced that he will be stepping down from his role as chief creative officer at Jaguar Land Rover at the end of March.

McGovern has played a pivotal role in Range Rover’s design choices for more than 20 years, so it will be interesting to see who steps in to head up the team and what direction they take the brand and its vehicles in going forward. 

One of the most important projects McGovern has worked on in recent years is the Jaguar Land Rover Reimagine strategy. This is where the organisation set out its vision for its various brands in the future, with a focus on sustainability and electrification.

When it launched in 2021, the new strategy highlighted plans to introduce all-electric versions of vehicles across its portfolio, with the ambition of offering an electric variant of all the nameplates under the brand by 2030.

However, Jaguar Land Rover has also stated that only its Jaguar brand will be completely electric by 2030, with the Range Rover, Discovery and Defender brands all offering electric models alongside more traditional versions of the vehicles. 

Still, this will likely mean that, over time, some of the most iconic combustion engines in the range will become scarcer.
