Range Rover has produced some great models down the years, but apparently the next one could be the “best looking Range Rover product ever”.

This claim was made by Auto Evolution as it reported on pictures collected by ‘spies’ who had spotted Land Rover testing what they believe is the new Velar, an all-electric SUV that is expected to be formally unveiled next year.

Given that the original Velar, launched in 2017, was voted the “World’s Most Beautiful Car” at the 2018 World Car Awards, this is no faint praise.

The new model was described as ‘spaghettified’, which doesn’t mean it suddenly looks like pasta or it might perform differently when driven through a well-known motorway junction in Birmingham, but rather that it is longer and not very tall, only just exceeding the Evoque in height.

Nonetheless, the fact that the model “left us all gasping for air” in the words of the reviewer suggests it will be quite something.

Of course, those with an older Range Rover won’t be focused on electric models, and if yours isn’t performing well just now it may be that it needs a reconditioned engine.

That may not make it into a model as stunningly attractive as the new Velar apparently is, but it will ensure you get the joy of enhanced performance. Indeed, given there aren’t many Range Rovers that don’t look good, that may be your top priority.

What the new Velar does signify is the direction Range Rover is going, with four electric SUVs in the pipeline. Indeed, Motor Authority, not to be out-spied by Auto Evolution, has reported on the pictures and direct visual impressions its correspondents were able to glean from checking out the Range Rover Electric as it was tested at Germany’s Nurburgring.

Its report talked about how Range Rover Electric will be the quietest SUV yet. But for those who still love a good diesel engine now, a new or reconditioned one can give a reassuringly powerful roar. The future may be electric, but it’s not here yet.
